Vocal Music, D10
Years
of Teaching: 38
Degree: Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma
Family: I have been married 38 years to Chuck Doss who serves
Metropolitan Baptist Church here in Wichita as Minister of
Administration and Education. We have one grown daughter who is
married and lives in Tempe, AZ.
Teaching Career: I began teaching Elementary Vocal Music in Norman,
Oklahoma. As we have moved, I have taught in Kansas City,
KS, Columbia, MO, Phoenix, Arizona, and Sacramento, CA. Since
coming to Wichita, I have taught at Washington and Colvin Elementary
Schools before coming to Woodman. I love to watch the positive
effect music has on the hearts, minds and attitudes of children as
they participate. I have great joy is listening to the children
sing and watching them respond to music.

Counselor, E5
Years
of experience:
I
have been teaching students for 22 years in the Wichita Public School
system. I taught third, fourth and fifth graders for eleven
years. Then I graduated with my Masters Degree in Counseling and
became the school counselor at Rea Woodman.
College:
I went to
Hutchinson Community College, then to Oklahoma State University and
graduated from Wichita State University. I learned very much at the
three colleges I attended.
Family:
I am married with
two dogs. Bentlee is eight years old and he is our family pet.
Cheyenne is three years of age and she is a Professional Therapy Dog and
she works with the students at Woodman Elementary. Cheyenne loves
going to school with me and she looks forward to having her ears rubbed.
Hobbies:
I like to bake goodies to share with others. I enjoy making
Christmas ornaments, plates and other unusual items. I love going
out to eat, but I am fairly certain eating is not a hobby!
Teaching
philosophy: If you
think you can, you can! The hardest part of achieving a goal is
getting started.
Most
memorable moment in teaching career: I
have so many it is difficult to choose just one. I have many funny
and cute memories and lots of memories of seeing a child’s face light up
when they understand something.

Therapy Dog
Years of Experience:
3 years as a professional therapy dog
College: I graduated
with my degree in being Public Access Trained when I was only 14 months
old!
Family: I have a
great family. I have a mom and dad that love me very much. When it is my
birthday, I get a little cup of Dairy Queen ice cream. I love vanilla ice
cream. I also have an older brother, Bentlee, but I am bigger than him so
sometimes I bother him. For example: I steal his chew toy when he's not
looking or I try to take his raw hide bone. He pays me back though by
taking some of my dog food.
Hobbies: I like it
when my parents take me on long rides to New Mexico so I can see my
"doggie" cousins. Last summer, there was a total of five dogs
altogether, man, oh, man, did I have fun. I love running after my tennis
ball and chasing my big brother, Bentlee, around the yard and house. I
also love playing with grasshoppers in the summer time and going for walks
around the neighborhood. I love Christmas because Grandma and Grandpa
Green send Bentlee and me lots of toys and dog treats.
Most memorable teaching
experience: Never bite the hand that gets you Dairy Queen ice cream.
It is nicer to kiss than to be hit. And I don't care who you are, I will
always love you.

Tech Resouce
B13, 3-0234
Years of
experience: 22; I'm lucky because 20 of these years have been at Woodman,
my second home!
Last year I became the
Technology Resource teacher at Woodman, a different but rewarding
experience. I believe that technology plays an important part in a child’s
education. There are numerous opportunities to enhance learning through
technology in the classroom and I am excited to play a part in teaching
teachers to use technology.
College: B.A.
in Education from Wichita State University
Family:
Husband, Weldon and two grown children plus two grand children.
Hobbies:
Sewing, working with a teenage service organization
Teaching
philosophy: I believe that all students spend about the first three years
of school learning to read and the rest their life reading to learn. I
love to teach third graders because third grade is often the time that
students make the switch. It is quite rewarding to watch them make that
change. I always hope that every child leaves my class as a life long
reader.
Most memorable
moment in teaching career: There have been so many. Each year brings a new
memorable moment.

Art, A8, 3-0223
Years of
experience: I
am in my 22nd year of teaching! It doesn’t seem
possible. I have taught High School, Middle School, and Elementary
school. I have even taught workshops at Friends University for teachers in
the summertime.
College:
I attended University of Southern Colorado and then transferred to
Colorado State University where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a
K-12 Education degree. Later I attended Metro State University to
add an English Minor to my credentials.
Family:
My husband “Nelson” is a designer draftsman for Boeing Military.
We have two children Joey (8yrs) and Teddy (5yrs). We also have 3
cats, a guinea pig, two hamsters, a couple of frogs, and some fish.
Hobbies: When
I have time I like to read, do needle work, and paint. During the
spring and summers I also garden, make jelly and jams, and we are
constantly restoring our almost 100 yr. old house.
Teaching
philosophy: I do not really have a
teaching philosophy…. I have a “learning philosophy” .
Learning should be done on the highest level possible, should incorporate
as many subjects as possible, and above all should be FUN. I for one
am still learning and I like it fun, too.
Most
memorable moment in teaching career: After one
particularly bad day a student looked at me and told me to go home and do
something nice for myself – like get married. So – I did.
